DIY iPhone battery replacement

Are you getting a bit frustrated with your iPhone’s lack of battery life? Feel like it could use a boost from a new juice pack? Do you have nerves of steel? This new kit allows you to replace your iPhone battery without sending the unit in for replacement by Apple. The only catch? You’ll need to get comfortable with a soldering iron, a pair of scissors, and a pry-tool. This is not for the faint of heart. The process requires you to sever the OEM iPhone battery connection and solder the new one to the existing wires. It’s not easy, and the prospect for a completely powerless / bricked iPhone certainly exists, but if you’re successful you’ll find yourself with a fresh 1400 mAh battery. How much does it cost? $25. Any takers?

Review: JAVOedge Apple iPhone AlloyVision Crystal Metal Case by JustAnotheriPhoneBlog.com

A short while ago JAVOedge sent me a few cases to take a look at from their new AlloyVision line-up for the iPhone. Well, actually they sent me all four cases (Black, Red, Silver and Magenta) to check out. So rather than give you pages and pages of me blabbering… I figured why not just give you a bunch of images and give you some thoughts about this new hybrid style plastic and metal case towards the end?!

Continue on for the rest!!

Review: The Palm Centro; at $99.99 it really isn’t a tough choice

I started using Palm OS devices back in 1997 and went through several Palm and Sony CLIE models. The last Palm OS device I used was the Treo 650, which I used for about a year (almost a record for me) and gave up on it almost 2 years ago. While the Treo devices released over the last year have had some nice improvements (rubberized casing, loss of antenna, and better cameras) there hasn’t been much departure from that same Treo 600 form factor we saw back in 2003. Early rumor photos of the Palm Centro did not look too great, but I changed my mind quickly after receiving a 30-day evaluation unit from Palm. The Palm Centro is a very sleek smartphone and at US$99.99 with a two-year agreement and service plan I hope it brings more people into the smartphone world.

Review: JAVOedge Portable Battery Complete Bundle by JustAnotherMobileMonday.com

The JAVOedge High Capacity (3400mAH) Portable Battery Charger COMPLETE Bundle is excellent. I couldn’t be happier with the ease of use, durability and the amount of power this little unit supplies. I expected the unit to be a lot bigger than it actually is, and was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package to find a charger not much thicker than my iPhone and a bit lighter to boot!

The only real complaint I can come up with on this charger bundle is that there isn’t a battery meter on the unit so you have no idea how much juice is left in it. I don’t know how much it would cost to add, but the charger would be near perfect with a little button that lit up a set of lights … like a laptop battery indicator.

Overall I don’t think you can go wrong with this charger. If you’re constantly on the go and need a portable power source this is your guy! If you’re not a world traveler but like me have a device that doesn’t let you swap batteries, then this is your guy! If you’re one of the three people who own a Microsoft Zune … this is NOT your guy as it isn’t supported. Sorry Zuners.

Review: Give Your iPhone The Edge with the JAVOedge Metal Cover by JustAnotheriPhoneBlog.com

javoedge_001

Like millions of people out there that own an iPhone, there is one thing that is always on my mind. How do I protect my iPhone without compromising it’s beauty and more importantly its functionality. Now, I know that’s a tough one. Do I protect my iPhone like a tank? Wrap it like a baby and hide its sexy curves? Or forget about protecting the device, and just go naked? To be honest, I don’t mind going naked. Err, my device that is. So what to do?

Come on over to the backside, and lets get naked…

javoedge_019

Introducing the JAVOedge Metal Cover for the iPhone. Sure, your iPhone might not be protected like a “tank”, but with material made of aircraft grade aluminum, I say it’s pretty darn close. How about those sexy curves? The sexy curves remain, and are multiplied.

JAVOedge tough and sleek metal cover for your Apple iPhone! This is the ideal accessory for people who are looking for great protection without the bulk of conventional cases.

Nice, I’m sold.

JAVOedge is no stranger when it comes to protecting your Tech-toys, and they do it with style. So when I got the opportunity to do a review for the JAVOedge Metal Cover, it was really a no-brainer. So, after days of eagerly waiting by my window for Mr. Postman to come by, I finally got what I was waiting for.

Review: JAVOedge Apple iPhone 3.5mm Stereo Headphone Adapter by JustAnotherMobileMonday.com

Hrm … what’s there to say?

Chirp Chirp. Chirp. Ah, I’ve got it. You have 3 seconds to name the most annoying PHYSICAL feature of the iPhone - GO!

… … …

Time’s up. If you said the headphone jack - You’re right! One of the biggest complaints I have against the iPhone is the recessed headphone jack that Apple put into the device. Now I have to assume there was some kind of logic behind this besides just forcing you to use Apple’s own very uncomfortable headphones. Sure, they work for some people (actually for a lot of people) but I find them to put a lot of pressure on the inside of my ear and I can’t use them for more than about 20 minutes before they have to come out.

Enter the JAVOedge 3.5mm headphone adapter for the iPhone.

Review: Apple iPhone JAVOClearCase by JustAnotherMobileMonday.com

Not too long ago we took a look at some JAVOedge gear and shortly after that I got a hold of a shiny new Apple iPhone. So naturally my next stop was to see what kind of cases I could wrap my new lovely in. Turns out JAVOedge already had that covered and offered to send me over a review unit of the JAVOedge JAVOClear case. The JAVOClear cases are made of a very clear poly-carbonate which makes this case not only temperature resistant (won’t crack in the cold) and also impact resistant so it can protect your hot little device from not-so-hot impacts. Now, I’m not going to say you should plan on a 5 foot drop test the minute you get your new case as there’s a good chance the screen alone wouldn’t survive the impact, but I think it’s safe to say this case would keep on truckin!

US Nokia N95 Reviewed: Better Than the Euro Version

More reviews of the Americanized N95 are rolling in, with Wirelessinfo taking a looksie at the 3G version. The quick-and-dirty takeaway is that the double dose of RAM makes things much snappier, even with lots of memory-intensive apps running—the available RAM’s actually quadrupled, since the OS takes up the same amount as before.

Hands-on With the Palm Centro

The Palm Centro is, briefly, a tiny Treo 755p. The specs inside are nearly unchanged and almost beside the point. This is an entry-level smartphone designed for first-time users. As Antoine said in our forums, the Centro is now what the Treo 680 was meant to be. Let’s run down the specs, though, just to get them out of the way:

  • Palm OS 5.4.9
  • EVDO 3G high speed data
  • Bluetooth Version 1.2
  • 64MB available user storage plus a microSD clot
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • 3.5 hour talk time, 1150 mAh battery
  • 4.22″ (L) x 2.11″ (W) x 0.73″ (D);
  • 4.2 oz

The talk time is a little short, but essentially these specs are nothing to write home about. Except those last two: the dimensions and the weight. The Centro is light. More importantly: the Centro feels awesome.

The Centro is due out on October 14th. It will be $99 with a 2-year contract and a mail-in rebate. Buying the phone outright is a hefty $399. I fully expect that it won’t be long before the Centro is free after rebates.
