This one has been on the market for quite some time, but we finally got a chance to get some “me” time with the Samsung SGH-G800 worldphone today. This slider handset is Samsung’s entry in the “5 megapixel camera phone war”. It’s quite thick, but feels good in-hand. As imaging is its main focus, it sports a Xenon flash, face detection, and an onboard image stabilizer. Image quality is fantastic, and the camera app felt a lot faster than most other camera phones we’ve played with. An built-in video and image editor rounds out the imaging feature set. It also sports 145 MB of onboard memory, and is expandable by a microSD slot. Not leaving everything else out, the phone sports a nicely-appointed browser application, and a full array of Google Apps. We really liked this handset, and it should definitely make the short list if you’re looking for a high-end camera phone. Just hope that Samsung OS doesn’t bother you too much. Check it out in our gallery!

Yeah, there it is, a shiny white Palm Centro in a booth for all to see, I’m sure Palm will be ever so delighted about this. Apparently an accessory vendor put it out to display some of its wares on the show floor and the gents at TreoCentral were there to catch it live. Adding insult to this slip up is that fact that the handset is a GSM model that you see there my friends, and interestingly it is different then the AT&T branded Centro we saw a while back. More on this as soon as we can get our grubby mitts on it.

All signs pointed to this sucker existing, and sure enough, here it is. The N95 8GB for North America is pretty much exactly what you’d expect it to be — an exact replica of the European version with the 2100MHz WCDMA radio surgically removed and replaced with an 850 / 1900MHz counterpart for speedy data in these lands. The screen is up to 2.8 inches versus the original N95’s 2.6, but the 8GB of internal storage comes at the cost of the microSD slot, so don’t get all cocky on us about rocking 16GB of storage in your pocket, alright? Check it in stores this quarter for $749.

Remember the BlackBerry 9000? It looks like that wasn’t a BlackBerry 9000 at all, but rather another device in the BlackBerry 8000-series! According to this document, which completely validates all our predictions of specs for the device, the BlackBerry 8xxx will see a commercial launch on Vodafone in May of this year. The specs one more time? 624MHz processor built on the new Tavor chipset, full HSDPA with tri-band UMTS (850/1900/2100), a “half VGA” screen (480 x 320), a frickin’ 1500mAh battery, GPS, Wi-Fi, a 2 megapixel camera, and will be targeted to the high-end BlackBerry users. Again, we’re looking at a May release for Vodafone, so we can’t imagine AT&T is going to be far behind, they might even get it before! Hit the jump for the full slide!

Well, this is disheartening. The M930W QWERTY clamshell from ASUS hasn’t even been officially announced yet and GPSAndCo — the guys that brought us the news in the first place — have revised the rumored specs downward. GPS is apparently missing from the handset (which seems like an absolute travesty in the year 2008), RAM comes in and 64MB instead of 128MB, and the whole package is running Windows Mobile 6 Standard. We sorta could’ve figured that out from the shots of the device we’d already seen, but still, it’s a shame that neither of the M930W’s two screens are going to be touchable. Then again, the triband GSM and single-band HSDPA are going to keep our grubby paws off this one anyway.

Now that there’s a CDMA version of the HTC Touch available, it stands to reason that pretty much every CDMA carrier under the North American sun would have at least a moderate interest in adding it into their mix; after all, it’s attractive, it’s functional, it’s 3G, and what marketing department wouldn’t be happy to hear that they’ve got an iPhone alternative in the lineup? Indeed, we’re hearing from multiple tipsters that Alltel’s own version of the Touch is poised to launch as soon as the 10th of this month, slotting in alongside the PPC6800 to shore up the regional’s WinMo 6 Professional offerings. We’ll follow up on this one as soon as we know more.

Goodyear, that name you’re accustomed to seeing on tires, has decided to jump into the GPS game, sticking its familiar brand name onto navigation devices. Hey, they have something to do with cars, don’t they? The company has pulled a Garmin on us, brand spamming with an entire product line of eight different GPS units that’ll roll out at CES, and ship in Q2 of this year. They’re calling them “rugged” for reasons we can’t fathom. Anyway, they’ll have a remote control you can stick within easy reach, letting you push a button to answer your Bluetooth-enabled cellphone. Spend a bit more, and you can hook up with MSN Direct for traffic and weather reports. No pricing was announced yet. This all sounds familiar.

Last week we showed you how to install third party apps on your iPhone or iPod touch, and since then a new firmware preview has leaked its way to the ‘nets with saucy new features that—once released—may tempt you to abandon your jailbreak for the newly introduced features. Fact is, until the 1.1.3 firmware is successfully hacked by the resourceful iPhone hackers, you can still enjoy all of the features the update is bringing and more with your jailbroken iPhone. Today I’m taking a look at my 20 favorite (that’s right, 20) third-party iPhone and iPod touch apps.

The folks on the Zune team are no doubt hard at work on the third-gen Zune and here are some renderings and specs of what it could/should be. The likelihood that we’ll finally see the Zune phone is more than apparent with popularity of the iPhone, announcement of Android and the downfall of WinMo. If MS doesn’t pull this out soon, they’ll be dead in the water. Not as a company, though. Just in terms of PMP and maybe their mobile OS.
The Zune 3 will feature 16GB and 32GB flash models, IE, Wi-Fi marketplace and a full blown touchscreen. In other words, it’s the iPod Touch and iPhone from MS. It’s an obvious assumption and I just hope MS doesn’t go and feck this up.
