RIM’s new domain names - BlackBerry 9100 and 9300 series on the horizon?

It seems our friends up north decided to get a little busy in recent weeks, registering a number of new domains in mid-October. It looks as if Research In Motion intend to keep their naming conventions in line with the 8000 series family - at least for now. Although we’re sure we missed a few, here goes nothing.

blackberry9110.com
blackberry9120.com
blackberry9130.com
blackberry9310.com
blackberry9320.com
blackberry9330.com

Earlier this year, RIM agressively acquired blackberry9100.com and blackberry9900.com from private holdings to mark their future product brands, leading many (including yours truly) to believe these to be the launch families for the 9000 series. It now appears the BlackBerry 9300 series will join the ranks and pick up the next generation footsteps of the Curve family, as well.

Review: JAVOedge Portable Battery Complete Bundle by JustAnotherMobileMonday.com

The JAVOedge High Capacity (3400mAH) Portable Battery Charger COMPLETE Bundle is excellent. I couldn’t be happier with the ease of use, durability and the amount of power this little unit supplies. I expected the unit to be a lot bigger than it actually is, and was pleasantly surprised when I opened the package to find a charger not much thicker than my iPhone and a bit lighter to boot!

The only real complaint I can come up with on this charger bundle is that there isn’t a battery meter on the unit so you have no idea how much juice is left in it. I don’t know how much it would cost to add, but the charger would be near perfect with a little button that lit up a set of lights … like a laptop battery indicator.

Overall I don’t think you can go wrong with this charger. If you’re constantly on the go and need a portable power source this is your guy! If you’re not a world traveler but like me have a device that doesn’t let you swap batteries, then this is your guy! If you’re one of the three people who own a Microsoft Zune … this is NOT your guy as it isn’t supported. Sorry Zuners.

Palm Offers Free Sudoku to Verizon 700p Users

While both Verizon and Sprint users suffered considerably during the sixteen month saga of the Treo 700p’s OS issues, MR delays, and ROM updater woes, Verizon users had to suffer a bit longer than Sprint users while waiting for the bug-free version of the 1.10 ROM update to be released.

As a token of their appreciation for the Treo community’s patience, Palm and Verizon are offering an unpublicized but totally complimentary copy of the full version of excellent Astraware’s Sudoku game for download. This freebie is available only to Verizon Treo 700p users with a 700p pre-loaded with the 1.10 firmware or who have downloaded and installed the updated ROM. Presumably, 700p’s containing the earlier, flawed 1.10 ROM with the infamous “Error 3000 bug” would also qualify for this download. This special offer is effective immediately and is slated to run through April 30, 2008.

SudokuThis same Sudoku game was freely offered back in May to all Treo users who signed up for the MyPalm beta portal. That version, however, had an onerous registration and installation process. Unfortunately, both versions of the game must reside in precious main RAM and cannot be installed to an external expansion card. The game takes up 865kb of device memory when installed. This latest Sudoku giveaway can be seamlessly download and easily installed OTA (over the air) via Blazer and the PalmSource self-extracting installer.

For those users who have not taken the plunge, the 700p ROM update can be downloaded here. I would encourage all 700p owners to update their devices to the latest version of the maintenance release as it is perfectly stable and finally makes the 700p the device it should have been at launch.

Palm’s generous offer of a free copy of Astraware’s excellent Sudoku (probably the best Palm OS version in a crowded field of “me-too” Sudoku titles) really makes this a pleasant surprise from Palm to long-suffering Verizon 700p owners.
