Has O2 really bagged the iPhone?

What in the? We didn’t see this one coming but out of nowhere O2 looks to have landed the iPhone. Vodafone and T-Mobile get nowt

It wouldn’t be the first time the rumour mill had it completely and utterly wrong but we’re still chipping dried cornflakes off the wall after spitting our breakfasts browsing the paper this morning.

According to the Times, the FT and the Beeb, O2 is the one spinning victory cartwheels this morning after swiping the iPhone from under the noses of the two front runners, Vodafone and T-Mobile.

The deal is said to be ready to sign with an announcement due shortly. The reports put a price tag of around £300 with a release date before Crimbo. The oxygenated network is also thought to be preparing an EDGE network so that its new iPhoners can make the most of their new toy.

O2 is keen to play it down by saying: ‘This is pure speculation and we are not expecting to announce anything. Every network has been linked to the iPhone and now it seems to be our turn’.

One might think they protest too much. The UK iPhone saga continues.
