Sprint will soon begin offering the HTC Mogul, also called the PPC-6800. This upcoming device will offer a number of high-end features, including eventual support for one of the fastest cellular-wireless networks in the U.S.

Rumors and leaks had already painted a fairly clear picture of this model, and today’s announcement serves mainly as a confirmation.

However, there is one very important detail that still remains unknown: exactly what day the Mogul will hit the market. All Sprint is saying now is that this Windows Mobile phone will debut on its web site this week, and in its retail stores some tine in July.

This model will have a base price of $550, but signing a two-year contract will drop that down to $400.

An Overview of the HTC Mogul/PPC-6800

The HTC Mogul is will be an updated version of the PPC-6700, which Sprint has been offering for close to two years. The new model will supposedly have some noticeable improvements over its predecessor; although what’s probably the most obvious of these is something this device will lack: a large external antenna.

Despite this, it will offer faster wireless data transfers… at least in theory. It will have both Wi-Wi b and Wi-Fi g, and its EV-DO service will be upgradeable to Revision A this fall. In addition, it will include Bluetooth 2.0.

This smartphone will also have its internal memory bumped up to 256 MB and its camera resolution increased to 2.0 megapixels.

The Mogul will launch running Windows Mobile 6 Professional, the latest version of this operating system.

It will have a popular design for high-end smartphones: a tablet shape with 2.8-inch, QVGA touchscreen and a sliding, QWERTY keyboard.

It will have a microSD card slot, not a miniSD one like its predecessor. Sprint will include a 512 MB card with this device. The amount of RAM will not change: 64 MB.

The Mogul will be 4.3 inches tall, 2.3 inches wide, and 0.73 inches thick. It will weigh 5.8 ounces.
