The teaser shot of the keyboard on Voda’s site might not be very revealing, but hey, we’ve got plenty of evidence lined up to know pretty much what’s in store for Vodafone customers come September 12 either way. Businessfolk on the carrier’s UK site are now being encouraged to preorder the device, which will be “using Vodafone’s high-speed 3G network” humming along atop Windows Mobile 5.2.
Some may have written off the traditional handheld, but HP is obviously not in this group. This company has revealed plans to release a new iPAQ without cellular-wireless capabilities next month.
This is a pre-announcement, so HP isn’t revealing all the details on this model at this point. Still, it is willing to give an overall picture of it.
As its name suggests, the iPAQ rx4000 Mobile Media Companion will be focused on multimedia. It will have a 2.8-inch touchscreen for video playback, although HP has not yet revealed the resolution for this.
It’s quite possible there will be different models in this series with varying screen resolutions. Many will certainly expect a multimedia-oriented Pocket PC like this one to include a VGA screen, but a less-expensive QVGA model might also be part of this series.
Naturally, this handheld will come with the mobile version of Windows Media Player, which can handle both music and video.
The rx4000 will also offer integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
