Recent evidence suggests that Sprint might soon be offering a “beefed-up” version of the popular Palm Treo 700w smartphone. It will be called Palm Treo 700wx.

When the Treo 700w was released by Verizon Wireless back in January, many confidently predicted that this smartphone would soon be available from a wide variety of carriers. Over half a year later, it still can be purchased only from this one company.
However, there is very good evidence this is about to change. The latest version of Sprint’s connection manager has a reference to a Treo 700wx, the first time there has been any hint of this model.
But the new information doesn’t end there. There are also reports that the “x” in in this device’s name is there to point out that it will have features not offered by Verizon’s version. The most significant of these is 64 MB of RAM, while the original 700w has just 32 MB.
If the rumors are correct, then the Treo 700wx will be available to Sprint’s business customers on August 27, and to the general public on September 3.
